My First Australian Adventure

September 29, 2017

Here's one of my first and favorite adventures during my time in the magical land of Straya'...

You’ve probably heard about the amazing landscapes Australia has to offer but nothing is quite like actually being there. One of my absolute favorite moments this past summer was the Coogee to Bondi beach coastal walk. This walk set the tone for the rest of my time in Australia and left me in complete and utter awe. We set out for this 3.7 mile (6 km) coastal walk around 11 am. The sun was shining, the sky was crystal clear and the weather was a comfortable 60 degrees. Let me remind you that this was their winter season and the coldest it gets there is around the low 50’s, temperature wise. We took a bus from central station to Coogee beach to start our walk. The blue waves of the pacific crashed against the soft, white, powdery sand on the shore of Coogee. During this moment I knew I was in one of the most beautiful places on earth. As we started the walk and rounded the first bend, leaving Coogee beach behind us, the scene that was in front of me was like nothing I’ve ever experienced before! The deep blue waves were crashing against the massive cliff side below us, shattering into a million different pieces as they broke. We passed a number of different beaches on this walk, each one a little more majestic than the next, until finally, in the distance we could see the world-famous Bondi Beach. As we approached Bondi, the sun was beginning to set, giving the sky a goldeny-orange glow. Little houses stuck out of the hill sides surrounding the beach, while surfers populated the ocean like little ants, showing off their best tricks and riding some gnarly waves in. Finally, being able to stick my feet in the fluffy white sand and just taking in the beauty of the landscape that surrounded me brought a very happy ending to my day. Bondi beach became a frequent place I would visit during my time in Australia because of the friendly people, the breathtaking beach and all of the happy dogs running around off leash without a care in the world.
